SHOT DESCRIPTION
Explain 3 camera techniques for creating storyboards.
1) The extreme long shot: This shot shows the depth and space of the location and setting of the film. This shot is often shown in the beginning of movies to introduce a setting.
2) Single shot: This is the most basic shot to be used. The shot focuses on one single person in the frame. It’s often used for medium and close ups.
3) Bird’s eye view: This shot is when a camera is looking over a vast amount of space from a high point. This allows the viewers to look down a big area like a city or a stadium and see every inch and detail of the area.
What is a two shot? When should two shots be used?
A two shot is when 2 characters take up the frame at once. They may be positioned face to ace, make one character stand closer to the camera than the other and turning the two characters slightly on different angles towards the camera. Two shots are used when characters may be having a conversation, argument or a discussion.
What is a canted angle? What types of films use canted shots?
A canted angle, also referred to as a Dutch shot, is when an image being filmed is too focused in the centre, it may be tilted creating the appearance that the object is diagonal or off balance. This effect shows an unsettling feeling for the audience. Films that show characters of violence and an out of control personality often use this angle shot while filming. Movies like horror and crime films and psychological drama.
When should close-ups be used?
Close ups are often used in television, especially the soap operas showing a very close and intimate connection between the audience and the character. It can also be used when isolating specific detail within that shot.
What type of shot would you use to establish two people arguing? Why?
I would use an extreme close up shot or a two shot, The extreme close up shot can show the main emotions and details of someone’s face when n they are angry or happy. It can show great detail and depth of a character and what they are going through mentally. The two shot is also a great shot to show people arguing because it can fit two people within a scene and show all the body movement that may be going on to tell the story even further.
Who made the zolly shot famous? How does it work?
Alfred Hitchcock was famous for the zolly shot. The zolly shot is when a camera is placed on a dolly or truck and moves towards or away from an object. While this is happening there’s a zoom that is added to the shot creating the zolly shot. Hence the name.
When would you utilize a tilt-up shot?
A tilt shot is used to show an object by different degrees, like showing a character’s feet and the camera soon travels up the body to the face.
